As part of the British The X Factor franchise, the program’s format has numerous differences from its rivals, including American Idol, among others. The competition is open to both solo artists and groups and has no upper age limit. Each judge is assigned one of four categories—either girls between 12 and 30, boys between 12 and 30, individuals over 30, or groups (some of which may be formed from rejected soloists after the audition process). Through the live shows, the judges act as mentors to their category, helping to decide song choices, styling and staging, while judging contestants from the other categories; they also compete to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning judge. The winner stands to receive a $5 million recording contract with Epic Records and will also star in their own Pepsi commercial, that will air at Super Bowl XLVI on NBC.The X Factor” U.S. is a contest for unsigned solo singers and unsigned vocal groups. Contestants must be at least 12 years old, legal U.S. residents and legally able to work in the United States. The show has a grand prize of $5 million and a record deal with Sony Music. The four current “X Factor” U.S. judges are Simon Cowell (who is also an executive producer of the show), Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger. Scherzinger replaced Cheryl Cole, who was fired after doing just four auditions with the show (two in Los Angeles and two in Chicago). British TV personality Steve Jones is the host of “The X Factor: U.S. The X Factor’s debut could not have been, as an idol, but the show aired on Thursday night was stable, leading Fox to win the night. Simon Cowell competition last song was virtually unchanged from the previous night, averaging 12.1 million viewers during its two hours and dip a little in the adults 18-49 demo. Meanwhile, freshman many network dramas began modestly. CBS person of interest has attracted 13.2 million viewers at 9/8c, but finished fourth in the demo behind X Factor, the first hour of Grey’s Anatomy (10.1 million viewers) and NBC’s The Office combo (7.6 million viewers) and the New Comedy Whitney (6.3 million viewers). Funny ABC and NBC Prime Suspect also failed to make a huge impact of their creations. At 8/7c, Angels drew 8.8 million viewers and finished third in the demo, every suspect drew just 6 million viewers on the way to last place in the demo at 10/9c. Office has the right person to work manager? CBS took second place for the night, thanks to a large one-hour premiere of The Big Bang Theory. The two episodes averaged 14.4 million viewers and was the highest rated hour of the night. At 10/9c, improved yields Mentalist little about the person of interest lead-in, earning 13.4 million viewers. The X Factor road, improving Grey’s Anatomy is the second time with 10.5 million viewers, winning the demo for the last hour of prime time, lift ABC to third place for the night. NBC took fourth place in the night, because of its non-office comedies to tolerate a fairly sad. Community has attracted 3.9 million and 4.1 million viewers tuned in parks and recreation.CW, The Vampire Diaries and the Secret Circle recorded a significant drop in their creations a week ago, drawing 2.4 million viewers and 2.1 million viewers, respectively. Although American Idol went on to become a huge success and rated number 1 for (as of present) seven consecutive seasons, in its home country the original Pop Idol did not fare so well. After the massively successful first series, the second series suffered from low ratings and what many considered an unworthy winner (Michelle McManus), who did not go on to achieve fame and success like the original winner (Will Young). In 2004, ITV announced a new reality show created by Simon Cowell with no involvement from Simon Fuller – The X Factor. Although its ratings were average in the first couple of series, by the seventh series in 2010 ratings were hitting 10 million each week.
Additionally, Cowell signed a long-term business deal with Sony Music Entertainment, who already support Syco Music artists in the UK, and will now be involved with the artists on the U.S. version of the show as well as becoming involved in its production. In November 2010, Fox began airing short commercials for the program which displayed the text “Coming to America Fall 2011″. The New York Times described the commercials as the network trying to set up The X Factor as a television event. In February 2011, during the Super Bowl XLV, FOX unveiled the official logo for the show in a promo starring Cowell. A second promo was shown during that night, featuring Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, The Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Lady Gaga, the Pussycat Dolls and Madonna. This promo started speculation on who would be joining Cowell on the X Factor judging panel. The X Factor premiered in the U.S. and Canada on September 21, 2011. The following day, it premiered in the UK on ITV2 and a handful of other countries.
